Cudmore....King!

From Drumble Beginnings....

Session commenced at 6.32am with a positively balmy 15 degrees on the dash as I drove towards hucknall to collect the other lunatic intent on trying new venues with a view to catching anything in deepest October.

The car seemed to have shrunk since the Springlea Classic? Kit space a mystery...

Off we trot full of hope & anticiation as usual " which pool ? " (must be a Shropshire thing) "which tactics?" and " what you having from cafe?"......all key measures of success.

With one of the Spring Lea Classic invitees missing (wiring a plug for someones toaster apparently) it was a two man expedition.....CUDMORE Ahoy!!

At a rather random opportunity Derek announced he had Yoghurt with him?.....Bait? Snack? A Rash?...

After a swift and music filled 1hr 15mins journey we arrived safe and sound and walked around the 'pools' .....

What became apparent to both Anglers that despite being only 65 miles from civilisation the natives spoke a strange tongue?.....Sausage butties consumed and tea drank it was time to wet a line...

Drumble the lake suggested by the shop owner....

Derek opting for a feeder set up from the start casting to the island maybe 30 yards away. Nico setting up his new pole for its virgin voyage.

Plumbing up it approx 5ft close in with a fairly flat bottom. Both Anglers initially mixing small pellets with G/Bait and maggots / meat . After 30 mins Nico had taken 3 fish 2 x Tench and a decent skimmer falling to Maggot and Soft Pellet although it wasnt alive with bites.

Derek had been consistent but early doors but it wasnt delivering any fish after an hour with the tip rod only registering a couple of knocks. Nico's peg had also died with only another small tench being taken. The weather varied from bearable to debatable with a strong wind howling down the leg into our pegs.

Eventually Dereks peg began to pay off with a stream of small chub and Barbel to approx 1-2lb, both anglers not really understanding the method or bait but gradually putting a few fish together.

In hindsight the pole was used for at least an hour too long with Derek consitently taking fish while Nico tried to tempt a few at 6 / 9 / 11m and the margins.

An irritation for both anglers was the need to comply with the rule ' Toilets must be used', luckily Dumble was close but some lakes are a potential car drive away? - With Nico approaching 40 peg selection is taking on a new twist.

Derek using Fox Feeder and 16 feeder hook continued to put fish together, and with reluctance Nico retired the pole to the holdall for another day. Beastmaster Medium Feeder....

After 72 casts to get close enough to snare a few Nico was back in the fish, but the lost hours had put pay to any catch up, the match was Dels but it was of the poles making. It felt a bit 'woodend' at times and there arent any big fish in Drumble....fact

Derek took around a conservative 40 fish over the day Nico a more reasonable 20 or so...decent for both really in the conditions...nearly November.

Theres lots to go at and its a great venue.....Summer 2010 roll on...
